Thursday night I burned the rice I was making for dinner. I forgot to turn it down to low and I was doing too many things at once. So when I was washing out the pan I was frustrated when I couldn't get the big black mark off the inside bottom of the pan. Of course it had to be my nice pot from our wedding. So last night I looked on the internet to figure out how to get rid of the burn. One place said to boil vinegar in the pan and scrub the burn out. So I gave this a try. I ended up using an entire bottle of vinegar because it evaporated so fast. So my entire house was filled with vinegar fumes and my eyes were burning and my nose was running. I opened all the windows and turned on some fans and then the house was freezing cold & it smelled like vinegar. But at least I did get most of the burn out of the ban.
This morning I decided to do a little more research and discovered on another website that you're supposed to dilute the vinegar with water. That would've been helpful to know. I bet the birds hated me last night. Also on this website I found all sorts of things you can do with vinegar. I think I knew this in the back of my mind, but it was a good refresher. I guess I need to keep more vinegar in my pantry, especially if I'm not going to dilute it when I need to. So I guess the moral of the story is...1. don't burn things in your good pans 2. do more research before you try something. 3. keep vinegar on hand.

I love to use vinegar to clean some of the windows outside , if they get hard water stains! It's stinky, but is sure works well! Hope you home doesn't still smell bad!!!
Also, what works for burnt on things is: 1st put warm water in pan. 2nd sprinkle a hefty amount of baking soda over area and let sit overnight. I read about it in "Are you there God, It's me Margaret?" It actually worked when I burned something really bad in my mom's good pot. Saved my bacon.
My grandmother swears by vinegar for everything under the sun. The only two things I use it for are: 1. Rinse cycle of the laundry (deodorizes them). 2. getting burn smells out of house. As you already know, it is the only thing you can smell. LOL
Have you ever heard of an s.o.s. pad?? Try it some time.
