High School Flashback

My parents are in the process of de-cluttering their house before Brian and I move in.  You see it's not just that we are moving in for a few months.  My parents are turning in their mission papers VERY SOON!  So they are trying to get the house ready not only for us and our things, but to leave for however long they serve their mission.  While they are gone we will stay there and take care of their house while they are gone.  We are going to use one of the bedrooms as a storage area for things that we do not need while we are there and for my parents storage as well.  This bedroom has kind of been serving this purpose for many years.  It currently houses their food storage, old keepsakes and my dad's office area.

My mom has decided that this entire room needs to be sorted through before adding more stuff to it and that it needed to be reorganized so everything will fit.  My family has lived in this house since I was 6 months old.  Going through nearly 30 years of STUFF is a daunting and arduous task.  She has found many things that make us laugh and many things that we wonder why in the world we kept it in the first place.  Time has a way of sorting what is important from the junk.

Every time I go over there now she has a pile of stuff for me to sort through.  I threw away most of it.  Do I really need a certificate stating I was in the band for 2 years in Jr. High??  I think I can just tell my children that, don't think I need the certificate to prove it.  I did keep one thing though.  I found a paper that I wrote my Freshmen year of high school.  We were reading The Odessy and learning about Roman and Greek Mythology and Gods and Goddesses.  The assignment was to make up a God/Goddess and write about them.  Describing in detail what they looked like and where they lived, etc.  I cracked up reading this paper, so I thought I'd share!

Tastides
The Goddess of Taste
May 18, 1998

I used a picture of Alice in Wonderland to base my Goddess and included a traced and colored picture with my paper.
Tastides, the goddess of taste, controls the tastes of food.  She has an average height, and her long flowing blonde hair represents a waterfall of lemonade.  hr bright blue eyes represent the pureness of drinking water.  She is also very graceful.
Tastides lives on the planet, Tongue, in a small pinkish-red house also shaped like a tongue with her name written across it.  The main rooms in her house are the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, and a special room where she keeps a crystal ball about the size of a basketball.
The kitchen is from the 70's, decorated in harvest gold and avocado green.  Her bedroom is somewhere from the future.  It is so weird that you can't explain it.  Her living room is very small because she dosen't get very much company.  She only needs room for her dog, Tongie.  As you can probably tell by now, she is very obsessed with tongues.
In her special room she locks herself inside, and nobody else can enter.  Sh looks into her crystal ball to watch her people, to see if they make her mad.  She doesn't get much sleep at night because all day she looks into her crystal ball and at night she takes a break to watch Nick-At-Nite.
Outside of her house she has a garden of flowers.  In the middle of the flowers, a tongue grows.  She also has a swimming pool shaped like a tongue.
When Tastides is angry with you or, the person preparing your food, everything will taste like you are eating a rock.  Even the things you love to eat will taste like mud.  So if I were you I would not make her mad.
When Tastides likes you, or the person who prepared your food, the food will taste wonderful.  Even the food you usually hate to eat looks and tastes so good you would think that you were in heaven.  Even those weird foreign foods taste good.
She doesn't get mad very often, but when she does you better watch out!  For example, she becomes angry when you're hungry and there's nothing to eat and also when there's a lot of good food sitting in front of you and you're not hungry.
She really likes you when you go the ice cream store.  When you go to the ice cream store it makes the Goddess of Nutrition angry.  Tastides doesn't like the Goddess of Nutrition.  She also likes it when  you are about to criticize somebody's cooking, but then you don't.  When you don't tell them you don't lik ethe food they made, Tastidies will make it not only look good but taste delicious!
Tastides does have one weakness, however.  It is easy for her to tempt the children to eat the things she likes best.  Since her favorite food is ice cream, she tends to tempt them towards junk food.  The Goddess of Nutrition, Nutrigraina, doesn't like this.  She would rather the children eat fruits and vegetables as snacks.  this rivalry has been going on for years.  At one point, it was so bad that Nutrigraina complained to the head God.  She complained to him about the way Tastides tempted the children to eat junk food.  Nutrigraina became so angry with Tastides' activities that she poisoned Tongie's bone.  In retaliation, Tastidies cut off Nutrigraina's hair when Nutrigraina fell asleep.
This made Nutrigraina steaming mad.  She was so angry, she tried to get Tastides thrown out of the God/Goddess kingdom.  This made Tastides very, very angry and she tempted Nutrigraina's daughter with and ice ream cone.  When Nutrigraina found out what Tastides had done, she gave Tastides a very strong sleeping pill.  This sleeping pill lasted for one week.  That was just enough time for Nutrigraina to get everyone back to eating healthy.
When Tastides woke up she decided that enough was enough, and wrote an agreement that they both signed.  The agreement stated that no more tricks would be played on each other and also that Tastides would try harder not to tempt the children so much.  In return, Nutrigraina agreed to let the children eat ice cream after their dinner.

The End

If you're still reading this, I hope you enjoyed my story and my memory flashback.  I got an A on my paper and I think now that it is recorded on my blog I can retire it. Now I must get back to packing!!

Wow! That's quite an imagination. Glad you got an "A". Sounds like you are having fun cleaning out the "room". Give your Mom a hug for me.

Enjoyed the story. Good luck with the cleaning out. At least you have more than three days to do it in.
